“i’d rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance”

I achieved my PGCE in 1990, and have been teaching in one way or another since then, in schools, colleges, universities and community settings. Currently, I'm Senior Lecturer at Sage Gateshead, and lead the undergraduate music programmes there. I also lead modules on Trinity-Laban Conservatoire's Masters programme, and give regular guest lectures at other HE institutions. I also lead a number of community choirs.

“I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning”

My approach to teaching is through dialogue, and working with individuals to help them achieve things they couldn't do on their own. I love working with small groups of students in HE, but also love working with large groups of children and / or adults, especially to make music together.
