The Lonnings
Bex Mather (guitar, vox), Catherine Reding (accordin, violin, vox) and Dave Camlin (guitar, vox) are a trio of acoustic musicians from the north of England making music together since 2024. We make gentle music for troubled times, original songs with interweaving harmonies and delicate arrangements. An oasis of calm and beauty and an antidote to the hustle and bustle of busy lives.
Our extended line-up includes Paul Susans (bass) and Bren Murphy (percussion) for richly exquisite chamber folk.
Drop us a line dave@davecamlin.com if you want to chat about gigs, concerts, projects or anything else.
Here’s a wee snippet of what we sound like. We recorded this live to a stereo mic in Blackhall Mill Communtiy Centre.
We’ve also played together in different formats over the years, including on Dave’s solo album The Journey is the Destination in 2020

What’s a Lonning?
Lonnings are ancient paths which have often been superceded by roads. Check out Alan Cleaver and Lesley Park’s excellent interactive map of Cumbrian lonnings (R).
They published a book in 2015 sadly now out of print called ‘The Lonnings of Cumbria: An exploration of the quiet lanes and footpaths of Cumbria’: https://amzn.eu/d/00Ry1qqQ
“A guide to some of the more beautiful lonnings of Cumbria. These ancient paths - which delight in such names as Wine Lonning, Guards Lonning, Fat Lonning, Squeezed Gut Lonning and Lovers Lonning - criss-cross the county but this is the first book to detail their location, history and mythology in one place.”
